Gifts of Conflict

Exhibition Date: 17 August, 2013 to 20 September, 2013 5:00pm

Location: Cardwell Library Gallery Space

Conflict in the artist's mind has been a driving force for me over almost my whole career as a painter, whether it is subject matter or the actual layout of the image.

One of the interpretations of the surrealist movement is that it is a depiction of dreams. Dreams conflict with reality because we have no control over them. People find my work disturbing because of this conflict.

The viewer is almost dragged through a painting discovering that there is little rest or calm on the journey. This is a reflection on the modern society where the demographics of life are becoming more disruptive — Eg: Information Technology, Faster Travel and greater expectations in the career fields.

I still find it hard to interpret my work to the viewer because each of them relates to imagery in our own individual way.
