REMOTE LIVING SPARKS CREATIVITY

A vibrant exhibition opened at the Cardwell Library on Saturday 13th August displaying the work of two local artists.

Jane Arnold was living in Weipa on Cape York Peninsula when her inability to buy a spoon rest prompted her to join a pottery class and make her own.  Since then Jane has gone on to create her own unique and interesting style, experimenting with glazes and producing products with a wide range of uses including garden pots intriguing indoor lamps and other functional pieces.

Jane has her own studio at home in Stoney Creek, exhibits in various exhibitions in the area and sells her products through the Cardwell Gallery and local markets.

Libby Clegg spent many years living and working in Arnhem Land NT as a Remote Area Nurse. She joined a project set up to enable local indigenous women to use their talents and create something that would enhance their living in some way. So began textile printing with lino tiles; material being used for making curtains and other soft furnishings. Libby enjoyed the experience so much she decided to continue to print after she retired to Carruchan a few years ago.   Her product range has expanded to include very unique children’s clothing as well as other household items. She also sells through the Gallery and local markets.

Jane and Libby present this exhibition as part of the program set up by Hinchinbrook Regional arts Inc. through the Cardwell Gallery. Each month an established or emerging artist has the opportunity to use the Library foyer to promote and/or introduce their art to the broader community. The only requirement is that the artist be a member of the Association.

The exhibition will continue until the 10th SeptemberLibby__Jane_exhib_2016_2.jpg
